Every installation location of control stations has its unique details, which we factor in: dizzying heights, limited space, highly-precise control tasks and environmental factors. An unrestricted panoramic view is necessary in a crane system, and a seat in a small cabin may have to fold together to enable access. Control stations in container terminals cranes must tilt differently than in mobile cranes. Employees in power plants are exposed to different temperatures than on oil rigs, where integrated seat heaters contribute to well-being. What may only appear to be minor details ultimately makes a big difference for the machine operators.

This is what our on deck control station pillars can do
On icebreakers at sea in the Actic Ocean, under the searing sun of the Persian Gulf or in the middle of a winter storm in the Atlantic – on deck control stations are used for everything from inland waterway navigation to ocean navigation. For example, when controlling an anchor winch, you must be able to count on fault-free use.
Our compact and robust housing shape withstands all weather influences and temperatures. It consists of a saltwater-proof cast aluminum alloy and condensation is eliminated with a heating system. On request, we can also apply a wet spray finish in up to 7 layers or apply a powder coating.
Winch controls can be installed on one or both sides and we customize control devices to meet your requirements. We ensure custom configuration of all functions. Various display instruments give you feedback, e.g. pressure and output. You also receive on deck control stations with bus systems such as CAN or CANopen, PROFIBUS, PROFINET or PROFIsafe.
We manufacture the on deck control station pillar with or without a round flange pillar, depending on your application conditions. By the way, for special solutions in stainless steel, you have the flexibility of specifying the housing size and shape.
All on deck control station pillars have a high IP protection category and are also available in EExd versions.
Ergonomic work
We have developed many features and options with which our control stations can be equipped with to meet your requirements and support ergonomics in your day-to-day operations.
Comfort seats
Most of our seats have long, full body contoured, tilting backrests. Incorporated fins can relieve the spinal column and the side contour give the back an optimal hold. On request, we can also install an adjustable headrest.
The seat can rotate or tilt or both, depending on the view required by your tasks. The possibilities here are endless and the turning radius of our rotating control stations can be adjusted up to 270°; tilt can be changed up to 14°. A u-cut seat cushion is also an option to enable an unobstructed view below.
A seat suspension improves work quality on uneven terrain and any mobile machine application, while also providing height adjustment. Optionally, height, tilt and rotation can be adjusted electrically or manually.
Armrests
We also emphasize the ergonomics of armrests to allow the operator to minimize stress during operation. Different armrests models are available to provide basic or more advanced adjustment option. They are also adjustable in length and can be easily adapted to body size and arm length. Special hand supports relieve the arms additionally and are available in certain chair system models.
Control consoles
The appearance and style of the control consoles depends on the type and number of functions that will need to be integrated. However, our control stations can also be combined with all consoles and joysticks from Spohn + Burkhardt. Even mini steering wheels, microphones or monitors can be integrated. Consoles can be supplied blank or fully populated with joysticks, buttons and switches for a complete turn-key solution.
The control consoles are also equipped with continuously variable tilt adjustment with gas shock assist. The console covers have a slight inward slope in order to enable relaxed work.
Some control console models can be folded upwards in order to facilitate exiting the control station. Others can pivot outwards. The console covers can also be either removed or folded backwards or forwards. Their width depends on the design, which you can determine.
Foot rests
Foot rests that rotate with the seat are available in a variety of versions with our without adjustments. Adjustable models should be considered to enable operators to accomodate operators of different heights, and the attached brackets can be adjusted upwards or outwards.
Special details
Memory function
If your control station is used in an environment with multi-shift operation, a memory function will allow each operator to save specific seat positions and quickly recall them at the start of every shift.
Seatbelts
High-quality seatbelts offer additional safety, either as a lap belt or as a 4-point shoulder harness. We can also integrate an optional seat contact to act as an operator presence switch.
Seat heating
For cold weather applications, we can offer an electric seat heating unit to keep operators comfortable as temperatures drop.
Sliding systems
We can also supply our control stations with floor sliding systems to enable operators to slide the entire system up and away from the operating space.
